Keeping Hold of Your High Performers

(Forbes, 18 January 2012)

In Brief: Top talent often leaves companies due to poor management and disorderly organizations. To retain talent, the author recommends hiring capable managers and having a clear vision for the organization.

Our View: At many companies, the “social contract” between employees and employers is more strained than ever due to substantial organizational disruptions, which have left remaining employees confused and disengaged. Our research shows that actual changes experienced, and even the anticipation of changes, lower employees’ discretionary effort and their intent to remain with the company. We advise Internal Audit departments to focus on accelerating the careers of their top talent and creating “head room” for emerging leaders.
